Some local Conservatives are unhappy with re-selection of twice defeated Stephen Day to be their candidate in the Cheadle by-election on the 14th July. The election will be a straight fight between local Lib Dem choice Cllr Mark Hunter and the Conservatives.

However just a few weeks ago, Bramhall Conservative Councillor Paul Bellis called for Stephen Day to be ditched as the local Conservative candidate in the Stockport Times. Cllr Bellis wrote, "There is no doubt that we will have to change our local candidate."

"Surely it is now time to look to the future after he [Mr Day] was defeated for a second time."
