Clampdown on Yob Problem

Cheadle MP, Mark Hunter is urging residents of the Lumb Lane area in Bramhall to help the Police clamp down on anti-social behaviour by reporting their experiences.

A number of residents have contacted Mark and the Bramhall Lib Dem team (Len Grice and Helen Foster-Grime) about rising levels of yobbish behaviour and criminality at the recreation ground caused by groups of young people. Mark has now taken up the issue with the local police in an effort to put a stop to the vandalism, littering, noise nuisance and intimidation of residents which has been on the increase over recent weeks and months.

Residents can also attend a special 'open door' session of the Bramhall Area Committee which is scheduled for Thursday 3rd November at the County Hotel between 3pm and 6pm. Although this will be a general meeting, and not specific to the Lumb Lane problems, it will provide an opportunity for residents to have their questions and concerns answered by the Police and local councillors.

Mark said, "It's clear that large numbers of residents are suffering the effects of anti-social behaviour in the Lumb Lane area, specifically around the recreation ground. Whilst most young people are law abiding citizens, in this case, the groups of youngsters congregating at the recreation ground are making life a misery for many local people. That's why the Police share my determination to put a stop to it."

"I have been in contact with the Police to encourage them to put a greater emphasis on patrolling and monitoring the area. I would also urge residents who are concerned about the situation to report all incidents that they witness as the Police concentrate their resources on areas where incidents have been recorded."

"We may well need the council to consider enforcing a dispersal order on the area giving police greater powers to move people on if they are causing distress and alarm to local people."
