Local MP Mark Hunter has a new role in Parliament. He has been chosen to be the Liberal Democrat party's representative on the House of Commons Trade and Industry Select Committee.

The committee deals with important issues relating to businesses at home and abroad and scrutinises the work of the Department for Trade and Industry.

Mark said, "I've spent most of my working life in the private sector so I have a keen interest in promoting business and prosperity. There are a number of important issues being considered by the committee at the moment such as the future of the Post Office and the aerospace industry in Britain so I'm looking forward to the challenge."

Mark will also continue in his role as a spokesman for his party on local government, housing and planning issues as part of his role in shadowing the Deputy Prime Minister's Department.

Added Mr Hunter, "Both of my jobs in Parliament, on local government and now in trade and industry have an impact on Cheadle in a variety of ways and I'm confident that these experiences will be invaluable for my role as constituency MP.
