Mark takes up new Commons role12.51.53pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 16th Mar 2006
In Sir Ming Campbell's first reshuffle of his Lib Dem parliamentary team, Cheadle MP Mark Hunter has taken up a new role as a spokesman for the party on Home Affairs matters - supporting Nick Clegg (Sheffield Hallam MP) who is the party's Shadow Home Secretary. Said Mark, "I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in to the Home Affairs brief. It is a wide-ranging role which deals with diverse subjects from local police services to terrorism legislation. Proposed cuts to police numbers in Cheadle and the wider Stockport area mean that I already have a grasp of many of the issues I will be dealing with." "Cutting my teeth in Parliament by shadowing John Prescott and working on the local government brief has proved to be an excellent experience but now I'm ready to move on and I'm looking forward to the responsibilities of my new role." Mark's brief will include a wide range of issues from community policing and tackling anti-social behaviour as well as matters relating to terrorism and ID cards amongst many others. ENDS
