Mark unanimously re-selected for Cheadle2.49.17pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 25th Oct 2006
Last Friday (20th October), Mark Hunter was unanimously re-selected by local party members as the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Cheadle constituency. The unanimous vote means that Mark will contest the seat for the Lib Dems at the next General Election. Despite being the current MP, Lib Dem MPs must receive the backing of their local party members to stand for election again. At a packed meeting in Cheadle Hulme last week, members overwhelmingly supported Mark to carry on as MP. Said Mark, "It's great to get the backing of local members and I'm eager to continue my work in constituency. The past year and a half as MP has been immensely rewarding and satisfying so it's great that local party members have given me their backing for the future." "Representing the the people of Bramhall, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Heald Green, Gatley, Woodford and Stepping Hill has been one of the greatest privileges of my life and I'm grateful to local members for giving me the chance to carry on in the role."
