Cheadle Lib Dems have been added to the Liberal Democrat Community Champions Hall of Fame. The award recognises their hard work helping the most vulnerable in Stockport during the coronavirus crisis.
The Liberal Democrat Community Champions Hall of Fame initiative was launched by Sir Stuart Etherington, the former Chief executive of the National Council for Voluntary Organisation and Chair of the Liberal Democrat Coronavirus Community Taskforce.
Spokesperson for the Cheadle Lib Dems, Tom Morrison said:
“This is an extraordinary time and it has been wonderful to be a part of a truly national show of civic engagement and social support.
“Cheadle is a fantastic community and I am so proud of what our team has achieved”
“I am thrilled that we have been chosen as a winner and want to thank everyone who has done their bit. With lockdown lifting, things are getting easier for some people, but I know as a community we are still prepared to help those who still need it.”
Acting Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey said:
“With national leadership seeming so thin, it is the community champions on the front lines who have truly made our country proud.
“I am therefore so pleased to be able to send my congratulations to Cheadle on this well-deserved recognition.
“As I have said before, I have been amazed by the energy, commitment and creativity shown by members of the Lib Dem community during the crisis.”
Chair of the Coronavirus Community Taskforce, Sir Stuart Etherington, said:
“The Cheadle Community Taskforce should be immensely proud.
“Initiatives like these have been there for people during one of this country’s darkest moments and those who stepped-up when it mattered showed what community means.
“They have taken pressure off our excellent but hard-pressed statutory services and done their bit to slow the spread of coronavirus, prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed and save thousands of lives”
