  • Millies Trust Westminster Hall Debate December

    Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Childcare and Education, Sam Gyimah MP, has promised a national review into nursery school provision of paediatric first aid. The Review will include a wide consultation of pre-schools on their practices, and on what checks there are on first-aid training providers. The Minister stopped short of a commitment for universal paediatric first aid training for all nursery school staff.

  • Care2Save Andrew Stunell Mark Hunter Donna Air St Ann's Hospice

    Andrew Stunell and Mark Hunter showed their support at a Westminster event for, the newly-launched shopping site that will help raise funds for charities across Hazel Grove and Cheadle constituencies when people shop online.

    Care2Save is unique in the UK, as it is the only charity owned and run shopping website that gives 100% of the money that it makes through commission directly to the charity sector. 80 per cent goes to a registered charity of the shopper's choice, and the remaining 20 per cent goes to the Care2Save Charitable Trust, which supports hospice and palliative care in the UK and globally.

    Mark Hunter MP (Cheadle constituency) is backing a campaign by sight loss charity RNIB to ensure that everyone diagnosed with sight loss gets emotional support to come to terms with their condition.

    Mark attended the launch of The Royal National Institute of Blind People's (RNIB) new report 'Being There When it Matters', which is calling for every eye department in the UK to have access to a qualified sight loss adviser so that people are properly supported as they adapt to life with reduced or no vision. The current picture is bleak; only 30% of eye departments in the UK have access to a qualified sight loss adviser.

  • Christmas Card competition

    Erin Jones, a year 6 pupil at Moorfield Primary School in Hazel Grove, has won local MP Mark Hunter's annual Christmas card design competition. Her festive drawing of a Christmas tree surrounded by presents will now be made into a card that will be sent to 40,000 local homes in Cheadle constituency.

  • Eastings Close Stockport Homes Shared Ownership

    Home buyers in Stockport will pay £607 less in Stamp Duty under new Coalition reforms, research by the Liberal Democrats has shown.

    The new system - announced at the Autumn Statement - is based on a long-standing Liberal Democrat policy and will significantly reduce the cost of moving house.

    People buying homes worth less than £935,000 will now pay less Stamp Duty than they did before, while those buying the most expensive properties will pay more.

  • 0.7% aid commitment

    Local Cheadle constituency MP Mark Hunter voted in favor of a bill that would enshrine in law the UK's commitment to spend 0.7% of national spend on overseas aid. By voting for this bill, which was included in all three party manifestos in 2010, he along with other MPs, have helped to fulfil the government's and the country's pledge to care for the world's poorest and confirm this in law.

    A Stockport construction company providing valuable training and employment to local people has been visited by local MP, Mark Hunter, to examine the successes of the project and how it can be expanded.

    B4Box, located on Stockport's Lancashire Hill, is a unique social venture specialising in employing and at the same time training people from disadvantaged groups who were previously distant from the labour market. The company trains students in its college workshop and has completed numerous projects including renovations to put empty homes in Greater Manchester back to use, working in partnership with social landlord Stockport Homes.
