Speaking after the results were announced Cheadle MP Mark Hunter said, ""I'm over the moon at such a decisive victory for Iain. Tonight's result shows very clearly the great support residents have for the excellent work our Councillors do for our area and I'm grateful to everyone who voted.

"Iain will be a fantastic Councillor - I know that he will work hard for the people of Cheadle and Gatley, represent them with dedication at the Town Hall and campaign tirelessly for our local area."

"My sincere congratulations go out to Iain and all the local Liberal Democrats. Everybody on the team worked incredibly hard and I was proud to play my part in the campaign."
