HUNTER CALLS FOR INQUIRY INTO ROYAL MAIL DELAYS

Cheadle MP Mark Hunter has today called for a "thorough investigation" by Royal Mail into late deliveries of letters and parcels in the Stockport area. Mr Hunter has been contacted by a number of constituents who have complained of letters and parcels sent before Christmas and in some cases still not yet delivered.

The Cheadle Lib Dem MP has now forwarded a dossier of complaints to the Royal Mail and asked for them all to be investigated. Mr Hunter is particularly angry about a local resident who missed an important appointment at the Christie Cancer Hospital because he didn't receive the notification in time.

Commenting, Mark said:

"Something seems to have gone badly wrong this year as I have had a surprising number of local people contacting me about this issue. Understandably, some are concerned that delays in the post being delivered locally may be linked to the closure of local sorting and delivery offices in recent years.

"Our dedicated post men and women do a great job in all weathers, but Royal Mail senior management have to answer for why there have been so many problems this year and I am seeking assurances that normal service will be resumed as soon as possible."
