Cheadle MP Mark Hunter teamed up with Hazel Grove MP Andrew Stunell and Stockport Council Leader Dave Goddard to welcome Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to Stockport on Friday 18th February.

The Lib Dem Leader was in town to join local councillors and candidates for the forthcoming council election campaign, and hear how Stockport Council plans to deal with spending reductions necessary to tackle the deficit.

After arriving at the Town Hall the Deputy Prime Minister then visited Central Library on the A6 to contrast how Stockport was dealing with making savings compared to Manchester where huge cuts in front line services are being proposed.

Commenting after the visit, Mark said:

"I was delighted to welcome the Deputy Prime Minister to our area. Stockport Council are working hard to reduce costs whilst protecting vital public services, and the Deputy PM was able to see this first hand.

"During these tough economic times it is vital that all public offices work hard to ensure the difficult decisions on spending are made as fairly as possible and it is clear that Stockport Council is doing a first class job at this."
