This Saturday 19th March, local MP Mark Hunter is attending a conference at The Kingsway School in Cheadle to hear the views of school governors from across Stockport. Well over 100 governors have already registered for the event, organised by GOVAS, Stockport Governors` Association.

Commenting ahead of the meeting, Mark said:

"I am very much looking forward to attending the conference on Saturday. Stockport is extremely fortunate to have so many people that give up their own time to perform this important role on behalf of the wider community and ensure we get the best out of our local schools.

"School governors often have a challenging role - which not always widely appreciated - and we ought to be grateful for the important contribution they make.

"As a former chair of the education committee at Stockport Council, I know just how important it is to listen to the views of governors and to raise the accountability of policymakers in this area. I am looking forward to a vigorous debate!"
