Last Friday, 8th July, local MP Mark Hunter joined Cheadle Hulme North councillors Paul Porgess and June Somekh to present Faz Mahmood, owner of Faz Convenience Store, with a 'UK Gold Award' for Community Retailing.

The local shop, based on Worcester Road in Cheadle Hulme, had it's 'outstanding achievement' recognised by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors. The organisation's campaign, 'My shop is your shop', aims to acknowledge small, independent shops and celebrate their position within their communities.

The owner of Faz Convenience Store, Mr Mahmood, is judged to be 'very proactive in marketing his business to customers, and providing a high level of customer service'. Mr Hunter and the local councillors offered their congratulations to Mr Mahmood at a special presentation ceremony held in the shop, and talked with the local shop owner about the issues that face the local community - as well as shop owners more widely.

Commenting after the event, Mark said:

"I was delighted to be invited to present this award alongside councillors June Somekh and Paul Porgess and I congratulate Faz Convenience Store on receiving such a special accolade.

"This is an example not only of a successful family business; but also of a shop which has a very positive impact on the local area it serves. Their success is well deserved.

"Excellent customer service and customer care produce excellent results - both on the bank balance sheet and in the local area - and it is vital that all local politicians give their support to vibrant enterprises like this."
