Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg alongside Council Leader Dave Goddard, Cheadle MP Mark Hunter and Hazel Grove MP Andrew StunellNext Monday 12th December 2011 local Cheadle MP Mark Hunter is leading a delegation to meet with Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rt Hon Danny Alexander MP, to discuss the implementation of the A555 Relief road project and to push for the work to go ahead as soon as possible. The top level meeting follows an announcement last week, by the Coalition Government, that the road scheme can finally go ahead.

Mark will be joined at the top level talks by Stockport Council Leader, Cllr Dave Goddard; Stockport Council Chief Executive, Eammon Boylan; Charlie Cornish, Chief Executive, Manchester Airport Group; Sir Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive, Manchester City Council and Mr Lewis Atter, KPMG.

Mr Hunter had arranged the meeting some time ago as part of the case to push the ongoing campaign for the road, and it follows a number of other ministerial meetings which have already taken place with Ministers in this government and in the previous Labour administration.

Commenting, Mark said:

"I have already heard from dozens of local residents expressing their delight at the news that this vital road project has been given the green light by the Coalition Government.

"It is crucial that we continue to keep the pressure up to make sure we get our road as soon as possible - traffic is currently blighting the lives of far too many people across our area and I will be pushing for early implementation of this well needed Relief Road."
