Victorious Lib Dem councillorsCheadle MP Mark Hunter has congratulated local Lib Dem councillors after a series of impressive results across the constituency last Thursday (May 3rd).

The Lib Dems successfully defended three seats in the area - Cheadle Hulme North, Cheadle Hulme South, and Stepping Hill - and gained a seat from the Conservatives in Cheadle and Gatley Ward. On the night, in Cheadle constituency, the Lib Dems won 4 seats, the Conservativse 2, Ratepayers 1 and Labour 0.

Keith Holloway won a stunning victory in a hard fought contest for the Cheadle and Gatley ward where he emerged with a 260 majority over the Tory. He now joins Pam King and Iain Roberts in representing the ward at the Town Hall.

Elsewhere, in Cheadle Hulme South ward Lenny Grice enjoyed a majority of 719 over the Tories and in Cheadle Hulme North ward John Pantall was also re-elected with a majority of 777 over Labour. In Stepping Hill ward, Wendy Orrell - facing her first re-election battle - stormed home with a significant margin of 467 over the Conservatives.

Both council seats in Bramhall were held by the Tories and the Ratepayers were successful again in defending the Heald Green ward.

Speaking after the results were announced at the Town Hall, Mark Hunter said:

"I congratulate all successful candidates and my Liberal Democrat colleagues in particular. In what was a difficult night for our Party nationally, our results locally were especially encouraging for the future. I will continue to work hard with all our local councillors, to make our area an even better place to live and work. We have much to do, now we must get on with the job."
