Last Saturday 2nd February Secretary of State for Scotland and fellow Lib Dem MP, Michael Moore, brought Burns Supper to Stockport. Local MP Mark Hunter welcomed Mr Moore to a special "Burns Night" social event organised by local party members.

The occasion, sponsored by Cheadle constituency Liberal Democrats, was well attended with over a hundred people squeezed into St Peter's Church Social Club near Stepping Hill Hospital.

A piper from the Scots Guards Association played and there were a number of speeches and recitals of Robert Burns poetry including the traditional "Toast to the Lassies" speech given by Mr Hunter.

Commenting, Mark said:

"It was a real honour to welcome my friend and colleague the Secretary of State for Scotland to Stockport to mark Burns Night.

"We hold regular social events in the area, and it was a particular privilege to have Michael Moore join us at what was a very enjoyable evening.

"Many local residents, including myself, have Scottish relatives or heritage and it was great fun to join together to remember the great Scottish poet Robert Burns in such presitigious company!"
