Mark highlighted the importance of green policies

Last Friday 22nd February local MP Mark Hunter joined with representatives from Age UK, Friends of the Earth and the Energy Bill Revolution on a panel for an "energy and the environment" Question Time event hosted by Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church.

The one-off event, which was organised by environmental group Friends of the Earth, took place on a blistery cold evening but was still well attended by local residents and environmentalists.

During the Question Time discussion a range of issues were discussed - all under the three themes of "warmer homes", "lower bills" and "cooler planet". Mr Hunter, who has campaigned on a wide variety of environmental issues since becoming the Cheadle MP in 2005, emphasised the importance of green policies and highlighted their impact on the green economy.

Commenting, Mark said:

"At a time of growing concern over increasing energy bills and energy supply, I was delighted to join local residents for an in-depth discussion about a number of challenges which we face.

"Green policies are good for our economy, good for our energy bills and good for our planet.

"Indeed, the green economy itself contributed a third of all growth in the UK last year - a huge boost to jobs and growth across the country.

"Continued investment in green policies such as the Green Deal is essential in helping people heat their homes and bring energy bills down."
