Award-winning Free School Meals for all Stockport pupils during School Meals Week

Pupils throughout the country have recently received a free school meal to mark National School Meals Week.

Local children enjoyed a hot and healthy meal from Solutions SK, Stockport Council's school meals provider, who have just been awarded The Soil Association's and Food for Life Catering Mark, a honour which recognises that all the meals are freshly prepared using seasonal local and organic ingredients.

This autumn Liberal Democrat Leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg announced that from September 2014 every child in infant school in England will receive a free lunch every day, including over 10,000 children in the Stockport area.

Last week Mark Hunter, MP for the Cheadle constituency, went to Queens Road Primary in Cheadle Hulme to discuss the good news with Headteacher Mrs Catherine Wilde, and to enjoy a school lunch with some of the pupils.

"It has been excellent to visit Queens Road again, this time to mark National School Meals Week, and to celebrate the news that from next September every 4 to 7 year old in my constituency will be able to enjoy a healthy meal for free not once a year but every day.

"Recent research has shown what parents have always known - a fulfilling, healthy meal at lunchtime means happy and alert children who are ready for the afternoon's lessons ahead. The Liberal Democrats are determined to give every child the chance in life that they deserve and to ease the pressures on family finances."
