BMX Bruntwood Park CyclingBMX bike enthusiasts from all around South Manchester converged on Bruntwood Park, Cheadle, on Saturday 5th April to celebrate the opening of a fully upgraded track.

Over 100 riders attended to mark the event and to get a first go at tackling the course. They were joined by top UK BMX and Freestyle riders including Tre Whyte and Abbie Taylor, who showcased their racing and jumping skills.

The £300,000 project has been possible thanks to a grant from Sports England's Inspired Facilities fund, part of Olympic Legacy Funding, as well as money from Stockport Council's sports budget, and The Thomas Cooks Children's Charity.

Local MP, Mark Hunter, who officially 'opened' the track said:

'This is a terrific new track for local young people to improve their skills and enjoy themselves; the weather did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm for trying out the jumps! Huge credit to Stockport Council for bidding and winning Olympic Legacy Funding, and of course to the volunteers that provide the Bruntwood Park BMX Club, ensuring everyone can ride safely.

'The Club really wants to encourage participation in and enjoyment of BMX, and they are an inclusive club aimed at riders of all ages and abilities. I recommend all young thrill seekers come down and try out the track. I am sure this will be a great new facility for local youngsters.'
