Mark Hunter addresses the CMA 10th Annual Open Day

Local MP, Mark Hunter, enjoyed another busy Saturday out and about in Cheadle constituency, meeting with local residents and taking part in public events.

Mark was invited to be a special guest at the 10th annual Cheadle Mosque Open Day that took place on Saturday afternoon in Heald Green.

The event hosts many stalls selling souvenirs, food and drink, and lots of entertainments for families to enjoy. The local police, ambulance and fire brigade were also on hand for people to meet and learn more about how they work to keep residents safe.

The event which grows each year, is also a chance for the Cheadle Muslim community to reach out to other local residents and share their culture and beliefs together.

Following the Open Day, Mark went on to the 55th annual Cheadle Hulme Flower Show held in the Parish Rooms on Church Road.

The long-established event hosted by the Flower Show Society awards many different prizes and cups, from the coveted Trophy for the best flowers and vegetables produced, to awards for excellence in arts and craft and photography. There is also a junior division for younger members.

Commenting afterwards, Mark said:

'These are two annual community events that are always firm fixtures in my diary.

'It's been great to see the Cheadle Mosque Open Day grow larger and more successful each year, and credit must be paid to all those involved with the Cheadle Muslim Association (CMA) for putting on such a great afternoon.

'It is so important in these difficult times around the world that people of all faiths reach out to one another, and the CMA plays an important role in fostering understanding and tolerance within our local community.

'The Cheadle Hulme Flower Show is another of my favourite events where each year it is great to see the tremendous produce grown by the Society's members. The Parish Rooms are always a riot of colour, and the competition is always fierce but friendly! My thanks to the Society for their invitation and for putting on such a brilliant Show once again.'
