Healthcare in Greater Manchester is changing as the NHS improves services in our communities. Proposals will transform GP provision and other primary care by increasing availability to patients, utilising technology better, and improving the quality of care. The NHS is currently asking residents for their views on the proposals, and local MP Mark Hunter is urging everyone to have their say.
As part of the changes medical teams from neighbouring hospitals across greater Manchester will be uniting to provide centres of expertise to strengthen their ability to treat life threatening conditions. There will then be two types of hospital, local general hospitals and specialist hospitals, which will then work in unison to provide the best possible care. It is important to note that patients will continue to receive most of their care in their community or at their local general hospital.
Before these changes are implemented, the NHS in Greater Manchester wants to hear from you, the service user. They have therefore launched the "Healthier Together" consultation (closes on 28th September) which can be accessed either by calling 0800 888 6789, or by visiting their website:
Local MP, Mark Hunter MP, commented:
"These changes are good news for our communities as they will enhance our NHS' ability to provide the very highest levels of care possible.
"Our local hospitals, Stepping Hill and UHSM (Wythenshawe), now have the opportunity of bidding to become one of the "Specialist" hospitals in Greater Manchester. I meet with senior teams at both hospitals on a regular basis and know that they provide first class care for our community; both have exciting proposals of what they can provide for local residents.
"I want to ensure local people are aware of the plans and can have their say in the consultation - it closes on September 28th 2014."
In addition to the consultation, there are two public listening events being held for local residents:
- Friday 22nd August 2014, 11:00am - 13:00 at the Wythenshawe Forum, Forum Centre, Wythenshaw, Manchester, M22 5RX
- Thursday 4th September, 7 - 9pm at The Village Hotel & Leisure club, Cheadle Road, Cheadle, SK8 1HW
- Wednesday 24th September, 5 - 7pm Cheshire Conference and Events, Edgelely Park, Hardcastle Road, Edgeley, SK3 9DD
It would be very helpful if people could confirm their attendance by email on firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone on 0161 426 5895.
