Tom Morrison and the local Liberal Democrats have said they are concerned with Metro Mayor Andy Burnham's proposed cuts to fire services in Stockport.
The proposals could see eight fire engines being cut and the area losing 194 fire officers.
Whilst Cheadle fire station does not appear to be closed in the proposals, many people are concerned that the cuts could lead to an already under-funded service being over-stretched.
Greate Manchester Combined Authority is asking for people's views on the proposals. The consultation can be accessed here: https://www.gmconsult.org/engagement/copy-of-gmfrs2019/consultation/
Tom Morrison has also written to Andy Burnham and the FBU asking for assurances that residents in Cheadle will not be detrimentally affected by the proposals.
"This is obviously a concern for many people" said Tom, "However, it's important that people have their say in the consultation. I am keen to get assurances from the Metro Mayor and the Fire Service that Cheadle and its residents will not be detrimentally affected by the plans."
