Success for Millie’s Trust

Government announces compulsory paediatric first aid training for all new pre-school staff

Cheadle MP Mark Hunter has today welcomed official confirmation from the Childcare Minister that the Government is to announce a change in the law to make paediatric first aid training for new nursery staff compulsory for the first time.

Commenting, Mark Hunter said:

‘I am delighted by this news which brings to a successful conclusion a long-running campaign by Millie’s Trust – the charity set up following the tragic death in a choking incident of toddler Millie Thompson in my constituency.

‘I am sure that this important change in the law will bring peace of mind to many parents across the country, safe in the knowledge that their loved ones are in the care of appropriately trained nursery staff.’

‘I pay tribute to Millie’s parents, Joanne and Dan Thompson, and all involved in this important campaign.’

The Government’s announcement follows a successful campaign that included an e-petition of over 100,000 signatures, a special parliamentary debate instigated by Mark Hunter MP and a question he asked to the Prime Minister just a week ago.
