Statement on GMP incident at Manchester Airport

Many residents have contacted me about the incident that took place at Manchester Airport yesterday.

The footage showing a Greater Manchester Police Officer kicking and stamping on a man on the floor is truly awful.

Greater Manchester Police has now referred itself to the IOPC and suspended the officer in question, which I welcome.

I have written to the Chief Constable and Deputy Mayor asking that all avenues are explored in this investigation and the reporting is made open and public.

Trust in GMP amongst many communities in Greater Manchester is at all time low. It’s important that the Police now does all it can to find out what happened and give the public the answers they need.
