Tom Morrison MP has welcomed the official opening of Pear Tree High School in Cheadle Hulme, a brand-new school for local pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The new facility will play a vital role in increasing SEND school places across Stockport and reducing pressure on families who currently have to travel further afield for appropriate support.

Tom, who attended the opening ceremony, played a key role in securing the school during his time as a councillor. He worked closely with local families, campaigners and council officers to push for more local provision for children with SEND. The project was delivered by Stockport’s Liberal Democrat-run council, which has made improving SEND capacity a top priority.

Speaking after the opening, Tom said:

“I was proud to help make this school a reality as a councillor, and I’m absolutely delighted to see it open its doors. It will make a huge difference to so many families across our area.”

Pear Tree High is designed to offer a tailored, inclusive and nurturing environment for young people with a wide range of needs. Its opening marks a major step forward in Stockport’s efforts to meet rising demand for SEND places locally.

Tom thanked the dedicated staff, parents and council team who helped bring the project to life, adding that he would continue to fight in Parliament for better SEND provision nationwide.
