Cheadle MP Tom Morrison has spoken in Parliament to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week, paying tribute to bereaved families and calling for better support for those affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

In his speech, Tom highlighted the story of Genevieve “Gigi” Meehan, a baby girl from Woodsmoor whose family have courageously shared their experience to raise awareness and campaign for improved bereavement care. Gigi’s parents have worked closely with local hospitals and charities to ensure other families do not face the same challenges they did in the aftermath of their loss.

Tom praised their bravery and used the debate to emphasise the importance of access to compassionate and consistent bereavement support across the NHS. He urged ministers to continue working with healthcare professionals and bereaved parents to improve the quality of care and communication families receive at every stage.

Speaking after the debate, Tom said:

“Baby Loss Awareness Week is a time to remember the little ones we have lost and to stand with families who carry that grief every day. I am deeply grateful to families like Gigi’s, whose openness and courage help drive change and ensure that others are not left to suffer alone.”

Baby Loss Awareness Week runs each October and brings together charities, campaigners, and families to remember babies’ lives and improve support for those affected by loss. You can watch Tom's speech below.
