Cllr Jilly Julian Elected Deputy Leader of Stockport Liberal Democrat Group

Cheadle East & Cheadle Hulme North councillor Jilly Julian has been elected as the new Deputy Leader of the Stockport Liberal Democrat Group, following the retirement of long-standing leader Cllr Mark Hunter.

Jilly, who continues to serve as Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, has been instrumental in guiding Stockport's financial strategy during challenging times. Her commitment to fiscal responsibility and community engagement has earned her respect across the council chamber.

She joins newly elected Group Leader Cllr Mark Roberts, who takes over leadership duties as the party looks to build on recent successes and continue delivering for residents across the borough.

Cllr Hunter, who steps back after a distinguished career in local politics, praised both successors as “capable colleagues” and pledged his full support from the backbenches.

Jilly commented: “I’m honoured to take on this new role and continue working hard for our communities. I look forward to supporting Mark Roberts in leading our group and ensuring that Stockport remains a great place to live and work.”

The Liberal Democrat Group remains committed to transparency, sustainability, and delivering high-quality services for all residents.
