🚧 Major Housing Development Proposed for Woodford Green Belt

A planning application has been submitted for a 545-home development on Green Belt land near Woodford Garden Village — prompting serious concern from Tom Morrison MP,
📍 The Development Proposal
Developers Russell LDP have submitted an outline application to Stockport Council to build a large new residential estate on land between Chester Road and Hall Moss Lane, adjacent to Woodford Garden Village (Map at bottom of page).
The proposed development includes:
- 380 homes for sale and private rent
- A 75-bed care home
- 75 independent living apartments
- 15 self-build plots
- A new nature park within the development
- Primary vehicle access from Chester Road
The land in question is currently protected Green Belt — countryside designated to prevent urban sprawl and safeguard natural landscapes for future generations.
🏡 Tom Morrison MP’s Response
Cheadle MP Tom Morrison has strongly opposed the use of Green Belt land for speculative development and has already taken action on this proposal. He has:
- Written to the developers to request detailed information about their plans
- Asked for clarity on any community consultation
- Requested assurances about infrastructure provisions — including roads, schools, GP services, and public transport
- Committed to raising local objections with Stockport Council and in Parliament if necessary
Tom said:
“Residents across Woodford, Bramhall, and the wider area value the Green Belt — and for good reason. These plans would see the loss of vital green space, with little clarity on how local infrastructure would cope. I’ve asked the developers for more information, but it’s already clear that local people are deeply concerned. I’ll be fighting to ensure their voices are heard.”
📬 Tom Wants to Hear from You
Tom Morrison is urging residents to share their views on the development, which he will use to inform his response to the Council and the developers.

🗓️ What Happens Next?
This application is at the pre-application stage, meaning the principle of development is being decided — not the final layout or design. If granted, more detailed plans would follow.
Key next steps may include:
- A public consultation period (dates to be confirmed)
- Submission of supporting documents by the developer
- Consideration by Stockport Council’s Planning Committee
- An opportunity for public comments via the Council’s planning portal
Tom and the local Lib Dem team will update residents as more information becomes available.
🌳 A Green Belt Under Threat
Tom Morrison MP and local Liberal Democrats have consistently opposed development on the Green Belt, believing it should remain protected unless truly exceptional circumstances exist — and only after full community consultation.
They continue to support sustainable housing that meets local needs, built in locations where infrastructure is in place and communities are involved from the start.
