Tom Morrison calls for report into Greater Manchester Police allegations

28 Jul 2023

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate and member of the Greater Manchester Fire & Crime Panel, Tom Morrison, has today called for a full report into the claims made against Greater Manchester Police’s (GMP) alleged treatment of women in custody.

A Sky News investigation claimed this week that Zayna Iman was stripped by officers and left topless and alone whilst in custody. This was confirmed by CCTV footage. There have been allegations of sexual assault also during her 40-hour detention by GMP.

Additionally, there are three hours of missing CCTV footage that GMP have still failed to supply.

Tom wrote to the Deputy Mayor Kate Green raising the issue of the missing footage and demanded a full investigation and report into the situation be brought to members of the Police, Fire and Crime Panel.

Tom said: “The news today could has shocked many people and it’s vital we get to the bottom of what happened. It is vital that a full investigation takes place and the truth comes to light.

The alleged treatment of women by GMP Officers is horrifying. The Deputy Mayor must answer why the CCTV footage during the time of allegations has not been passed over.”

People across Greater Manchester deserve a police force they can trust and can rely on. If these allegations are found to be true then there must be serious consequences for those involved.”
