Graphic saying Justice for Gigi

Cheadle MP Tom Morrison has featured in a short film with Channel 4, highlighting his campaign for vital nursery safety reforms following the tragic death of nine-month-old Genevieve "Gigi" Meehan.

Gigi lost her life in May 2022 while attending Tiny Toes Children's Day Nursery in Cheadle Hulme. Her parents, Katie and John Meehan, have since launched Gigi's Campaign, calling for three essential changes to protect children in early years settings: mandatory CCTV in all nurseries, unannounced Ofsted inspections, and compulsory safe sleep training for all staff.

Tom has been supporting the family from the outset, tabling an Early Day Motion in Parliament that has already gained backing from 30 MPs.

"Earlier this year, I became a dad for the first time," Tom said. "It's why Gigi's story has touched me so deeply. Katie and John did everything right – they checked the nursery's credentials, asked all the right questions, and thought their daughter would be safe."

He added: "This is not about politics. It is about doing the right thing, and making sure that what happened to Gigi can never happen again."

Tom will soon meet with the Minister for Early Years alongside Katie, John, and the Lullaby Trust to press for legislative change.

"Katie and John should never have had to become campaigners," Tom reflected. "But they are doing it with dignity, compassion and an unshakeable determination to protect other children in Gigi's name. I will not stop until their voices are heard and the law is strengthened."

The Channel 4 film showcases the family's campaign and Tom's commitment to ensuring no other family experiences such a devastating loss. You can watch the film below:
