Tom Morrison, Liberal Democrat MP for Cheadle, has met with a wide range of local businesses to listen to their concerns and discuss what more needs to be done to support jobs, growth and vibrant high streets across the constituency.

As part of a week focused on the local economy, Tom visited Nexperia, a major semiconductor manufacturer based in Cheadle and one of the area’s largest employers. During his visit, Tom spoke with senior staff about the challenges facing British industry, the importance of skilled workers, and the need for long-term support for UK manufacturing.

Tom also hosted a small business roundtable in Cheadle, bringing together independent retailers, small firms and entrepreneurs from across Cheadle, Bramhall and Cheadle Hulme. Many raised concerns about the rising cost of doing business, including energy bills, wages, supply issues and unfair tax pressures. Several attendees highlighted how recent decisions by the Labour government were making the situation even harder.

Tom said:

“I have always been a strong advocate for small and medium-sized businesses. They are the backbone of our local economy, and we need to do far more to support them. I am proud that the Liberal Democrats are leading the way on this — fighting to reduce costs, cut red tape, and fix broken systems like business rates.”

The Liberal Democrats have a strong focus on reviving local high streets and giving small businesses the tools they need to thrive. The party is calling for a new industrial strategy that supports green innovation, tackles labour shortages and improves access to finance. They also want to see lower energy costs through targeted support and investment in energy efficiency.

Tom added:

“Our high streets matter. They bring life to our communities and support thousands of local jobs. I will keep standing up for them — in Westminster and here in Cheadle.”

Local businesses are encouraged to contact Tom’s office directly to share their views or request a meeting.
