Tom Morrison MP Marks 80th Anniversary of VE Day at Stockport Civic Service
Tom Morrison, MP for Cheadle, joined civic leaders, veterans, and local residents at Stockport’s Civic Service to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.
The service, held in Stockport Town Centre, was a solemn and reflective occasion to commemorate the end of the Second World War in Europe and to honour those who served, sacrificed, and endured during one of the most challenging periods in modern history.
Tom attended the event alongside the Mayor of Stockport and was honoured to meet veterans who had gathered for the anniversary. Their presence served as a poignant reminder of the bravery and resilience of the wartime generation.
Speaking after the service, Tom said:
“It was a real privilege to represent Cheadle at today’s service. Meeting veterans and hearing their stories was incredibly humbling. We owe so much to those who lived through the war — their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering spirit must never be forgotten. On this 80th anniversary of VE Day, we remember not just a moment in time, but a generation whose actions helped shape the world we live in today.”
VE Day marks the formal acceptance of Nazi Germany’s surrender by Allied forces on 8 May 1945, ending the war in Europe. The 80th anniversary is being marked by services, events, and tributes across the UK.
Tom also paid tribute to the organisers of the event, and to everyone who continues to preserve the stories and legacy of the Second World War generation.
